Do you have a child who hates brushing his/her teeth? I’m talking full blown battle??? You aren’t alone.
Here are some tips to help make that easier:
INVOLVE YOUR CHILD
Instead of trying to do it all yourself, let your child be involved. Let them choose their brush at the store, help you
put on the toothpaste, and even brush with them so they can try to follow you.
LET THEM TRY ON THEIR OWN, even if they don’t do a perfect job.
Some brushing is better than nothing and forcing the situation isn’t going to help. Try a “you brush for 30 seconds,
then I brush for 30 seconds” back and forth. Praise does wonders for kids and while they won’t be able to do a proper
job on their own until 8 or 9, you can still do the ‘final check’.
BRUSH THEIR NOSE INSTEAD!
Nothing distracts kids more than laughing. Accidentally brushing their nose with water to get them giggling never hurts.
It can set a fun tone for brushing and make the experience enjoyable.
EDUCATE THEM
Asking us at the clinic to help explain why brushing is so important can help kids understand the reasoning behind it
and hear it come from someone other than you!
GET A GOOD BRUSH
A good kids’ brush can certainly help the process. We have lots of options for purchase at the clinic so ask next time you are in!
BRUSH ALONG TOO!
Children love to mirror their parents. Showing them you brush your teeth too teaches them.
